For each part, it’s vital you READ THE QUESTIONS BEFORE the recording begins. There are somtimes a few seconds to do this (part 2 gives you 45 seconds, part 3 gives you 20 seconds). 

Remember, as you listen, to FOCUS on the question and choose the answer you think is right to THAT question.

When you’ve listened twice, MOVE ON and read the next question. 

Remember too that in each question, there are distractors. That means you’ll probably hear lots of other relevant information, but it won’t be the information you need to give the ANSWER to the QUESTION. IT’s there to distract you! Watch out! 

Never leave any questions unanswered. You gain nothing for a blank answer.

* to make up my mind = to decide/to make a decision

**to fit the bill = to match exactly to what you want or need

This is a list of PET vocabulary you must know for the exam. Print a copy or save it to your computer for reference and revision before the exam.

These are some ways you can use it right away:

- tick off the word(s) in the alphabetical list when you first encounter it/them
- write an example sentence next to the word or in a notebook (note the part of speech)
- find the word in the lexical sets and write an example sentence with three other words in the same set.
- look (yes, just look) at the words you have ticked off once a week – for example every Tuesday before the lesson

We checked your use of past tense forms: past simple and continuous forms, past perfect simple and continuous forms, and present perfect simple and continuous forms.

We also looked at some phrasal verbs… Based on “PUT” used with either UP or DOWN.

Remember phrasal verbs are most often used in spoken and informal (written) English.

Some fun idioms came out. Can you recall what they mean and when you’d use them? Here they are:

Pull your socks up!
He talks behind your back.
He paid for it through the nose.
He’s lying through his teeth!
